Snape's career choices sans Voldemort
|

I've been wondering lately what Snape would have done with his life had he not come under the influence of Voldemort. I doubt he'd have gone into teaching at all. But it occurred to me that we really are not shown such a lot of choice of career in the wizarding world, and this is probably because of the fact that Harry is concentrating on other more pressing matters during his years at Hogwarts. But the Ministry seems to be the big employer, with a few other bits and pieces such as dress shops (Madame Malkin's), inn-keepers (Tom and Rosmerta), Borgin and Burkes, Ollivanders, etc. None of which I can really see Snape working in (although there's a few Snapefen I imagine who wouldn't mind him measuring us up for a new dress at Madame Malkin's LOL!)
I'd love to know of other options the members here might come up with for a satisfying career for Severus. I've written one fic "Back to Basics" where he abandons the wizarding world and lives out his life amongst the Muggles, running a string of naturopathy shops. Of course he'd be successful since his potions would work!
But that then gave rise to another question: would magic potions work on Muggles? We see Mr Weasely in hospital not responding at all well to stitches after Nagini attacked him, so I wondered if the same held true for Muggles' response to potions.
I look forward to the birth of plot bunnies!

http://community.livejournal.com/bentolunch/4004259.html I'm not really sure if this is allowed, but I'll ask anyway. Since Ichiban Kan online closed I haven't really been able to find a cheap store like. Even J-list is too steep for me. So I was wondering if any of you guys are selling your boxes/accessories for cheap? I wouldn't mind buying used as long as everything is in good condition. I'm mostly looking for more boxes in different shapes and sizes and functional accessories like silicone cups and such.
Thanks!

Star Trek Big Bang Fic: Diamonds, a Club, and a Couple of Hearts
|

|
|---|
|
Title: Diamonds, a Club, and a Couple of Hearts Author: Flora ( florahart) Artist/Mixer: elanorofcastile Beta(s): Several people have read bits and parts; lauriegilbert has been the most involved culler of commas and shortener of sentences (half of which I defied her about anyway). Series: Reboot/ST XI Characters/Pairings: primary pairing is Kirk/McCoy; however, there is a Kirk/Gaila scene and Spock/Uhura and Pike/Number One are referenced. Rating: NC17 Warnings: mostly just smut (het and slash), AU. Word Count: ~23,500 Summary: Jim Kirk is a hotshot new shortstop in the Constitution League. His team is young, but they have a lot of potential, and oh by the way, the team doctor? Is hot. Notes: Written for startrekbigbang. Baseball AU in which all the characters are human, and the setting is some nonspecific time between now and 2258. Lots of nods to various baseball movies mashed up with lots of moments from/rearrangements of ST XI. Lots of other nods to things from the Trek canon (of any timeframe/reality) and para-canon, such as character names and backgrounds. Concept is inell's fault. Art: here Fanmix: here

Brain dead, and CSA

Okay, I'm in not too bad of shape with this assignment, I guess, unless I've woefully misinterpreted what it's supposed to do. The instructions were... terse. But my brain is seriously shutting down, so I'm going to quit working on it for tonight and come back in the morning.
CSA this week included: daikon, red radishes, turnips, a few little carrots, garlic, cherry tomatoes, lettuce, arugula, turnip greens (in addition to those on the turnips), dandelion greens, and purple beans. [Still around from previous weeks: cherry tomatoes, radishes, daikon, turnips, acorn squash, butternut squash, beets.] Turnip puree again, probably; cook some of the red radishes for SO; plain steamed beans; lettuce salad. I might turn the other greens into a tart (don't have that recipe online yet). I also have a recipe for shrimp with cherry tomatoes and feta (also not online) and have a pound of frozen shrimp, so maybe that (using last week's tomatoes, which are now about ripe).
Other than that... Taught classes. Got prep done for Monday for both classes. Had a meeting. Dealt with work email. Dictated about 800 words each on two different fics; one for a fest, the other DD. Played some with Juno.
Now waiting for SO to get home. He'd indicated he was going to try to get home early tonight, but that didn't happen; he decided he really needed to work out since he hadn't all week. Okay, fair enough, and I worked on the assignment meantime. But if he doesn't get back soon, we probably can't have our Friday night date since restaurants around here close pretty dang early even on weekends. So we'll see. There are some leftovers if we end up not doing anything tonight.Current Mood: exhausted

(sale related post) group order?
|
Nov. 6th, 2009 @ 09:26 pm

|
http://community.livejournal.com/bentolunch/4003779.html now i know these are NOT classic Bento boxes (or even close, really) but many of us Bento fans also like the Laptop Lunchbox system.. so i thought i would ask here....
the webpage has a sale going on on the original "Laptop Lunchbox" in a carton of 24 sets. now obviously most of us have no need for 24 of the things.... but i was wondering if enough of us have any interest..... we could do a group order and split a case.
shipping could easily eat up the savings, so , for the record, i live in Philadelphia. BUT i do shows.... as a bead and jewelry vendor. and anyone could pick up a box at one of my shows. upcoming events are in : (before Xmas) Manassas VA Timmonium Maryland Hazelton PA (after Xmas) Boston Poughkeepsi NY
i routinely do events in the mid atlantic... (i personally would like the black ones with teh red interior trays as they look more classicaly Japanese... and more grown up)
i have no financial interest in the company, nor do i usually retail these... i just like them and thought getting them at about half off retail was a good idea.

Title: Lost and Held Author: gatewaygirl Characters: Sirius, Peter Rating: NC-17 Warnings: Castration, sex, cross-dressing, manipulation Themes/kinks chosen: Eunuchs/Castrati, Costumes Word Count: 5,317 Summary: An accident gives Sirius and Peter a shared secret Author's notes: November prompts included the theme "eunuchs/castrati". It's listed in the tags as "castration", which would have been a rather different story. I have been as accurate as I could manage with the theme, but certainly do not guarantee all details are correct. ;-) Thanks to Clauclauclaudia for very short-notice beta work.
